This coin features a beautifully detailed image of Jesus Christ sitting on his throne with right hand raised in benediction. Christ holds a bible in his left hand that has five dots on the cover, signifying the five woulds he endured during the crucifixion. Christ's head is surrounded with a halo with the letters IC-XC (Jesùs Christòs) besides his head. The reverse has the image of Alexius standing in a flowing road.

Issued during the rule of Alexius I, Byzantine Emperor from 1048-1118. This coin is a Hyperpyron, which means "pure gold" in Greek. The coin is actually 20.5 carat gold, which was very high for Byzantine coins. Struck in a slightly concave shape known as a scyphate, the cup shape was adopted for ease of stacking coins.

Set in a handcrafted 14kt gold border, this comes complete with descriptive brochure, certificate of authenticity and black fashion cord necklace.
