"All art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster's autobiography"
- Federico Fellini

Australia has been the main source for the world’s largest and most valuable pearls since the 1800’s. These famous South Sea pearls are the product of the world’s largest pearl producing oyster, the Pinctada Maxima. South Sea cultured pearls normally range from 10 to 15 millimeters, with very rare examples reaching 20 millimeters. Only cultured pearls from the Pinctada Maxima oyster have the beautiful color tones known as “orient” with shades ranging from white to silver pink to dark gold. Australian oysters and ocean conditions produce the largest and finest quality pearls in the world. The Pinctada Maxima oyster is rare and it will not survive outside the small area of its natural environment which makes it extremely difficult to cultivate. The oyster farms are situated in remote locations away from any potential pollution that might affect the oysters. Not every oyster will product a pearl and each oyster can only grow one pearl at a time. The finest quality pearls in the 10 to 15 millimeter size can take years to grow. Because of the long cultivation period the pearl’s coating, called nacre, is very thick on South Sea pearls which gives them their incredible luster. Our fine quality South Sea pearls have no unnatural enhancements. They have not been dyed, bleached, or treated with any chemicals that might cause their natural beauty to diminish over time. These pearls can be enjoyed now and for many generations to come. View our South Sea Pearl Jewelry
