When we found this spectacular example of a Byzantine histamenon gold coin we knew it deserved special attention. Working with our new designer Maritza Miranda (more on her in a future post!), we decided the piece would draw inspiration from the famous architectural masterpiece, the Hagia Sophia. Located in Istanbul, Turkey, the Hagia Sophia is considered the pinnacle of Byzantine architecture, and was the largest cathedral in the world until the cathedral of Sevilla, Spain was constructed. Maritza, an architect by training, has used key elements of the Hagia Sophia's design to create what we think is a truly beautiful and unique piece. This piece currently in production.  We can't wait to share it with you!
