Chariot racing was the most popular sport in ancient Greece and Rome. It is hard to imagine that 2,000 years ago as many as 250,000 people would gather in the Circus Maximus in Rome to watch chariot races. With dozens of races each day, the races consisted of 5 to 12 laps around the almost one mile long track.
The charioteers, although usually slaves, could become celebrities if they survived long enough to rack up a string of victories...

Gibeon Meteorite Pendant in Custom Mounting

The Ferber family is full of astronomy lovers, so it is no surprise that one of our favorite products is our meteorite jewelry. Many of our meteorite pendants are made from one of the most famous meteorite discoveries of all time, the Gibeon meteorite from Namibia, Africa. It is amazing to think about the long journey that these pieces have taken, and now we get to help find them new homes!
The Gibeon meteorite was first mentioned by Captain J.E. Alexander, an English explorer in the southern part of Africa in what is present...

The perfect example of why Meaning trumps all.

What's your jewelry philosophy? Don't have one? Didn't know you needed one? We've been in the business for a long time, so we thought we'd share with you what it is about jewelry that still excites us.
Believe it or not, it's not our dream to see every man, woman, and child walking around with five carats of flawless diamonds flashing about. Diamonds are beautiful and we love them, but by themselves they don’t get the job done. Diamonds by themselves are one dimensional. If you've been...

Most women would agree that you can't go wrong by giving jewelry. But, if you really want to score points there are a few things you should consider when deciding which piece of jewelry is perfect for your lady. Let's talk about comfort, durability, style, trends, and matching sets.
1) Comfort
You may think there is a rule that says women are willing to sacrifice comfort in the name of fashion. What she doesn't tell you is this: That only applies to things that she buys for herself ! Jewelry that is uncomfortable can be downright painful...

At Ferbers we like to use jewelry as a vehicle to explore far-off places and interesting cultures. One of our favorite collections is our Ethiopian Coptic Crosses. In the West we may not be very familiar with the Coptic Christians, but their history is rich and their influence in Africa is considerable.
Tradition tells us that the Apostle Mark founded the Coptic Church in the 1st Century A.D. in Egypt...

Hagia Sophia Pendant with 10th Century Byzantine Gold Coin

When we found this spectacular example of a Byzantine histamenon gold coin we knew it deserved special attention.
Working with our new designer Maritza Miranda (more on her in a future post!), we decided the piece would draw inspiration from the famous architectural masterpiece, the Hagia Sophia. Located in Istanbul, Turkey, the Hagia Sophia is considered the pinnacle of Byzantine architecture, and was the largest cathedral in the world until the cathedral of Sevilla, Spain was constructed.
